Parent Letter #1

Hello!!

I am Brienne Valliere. I received my bachelor’s degree in education from Northern Arizona University. This is my first year of teaching and I am excited to have the opportunity to assist in your child’s learning. I will be making home visits during the month prior to school starting. I will call to set up a time that works with your schedule. During this first home visit I will meet you and your child. I will be taking notes on this visit to assist in preparing the most effective lessons for every student. I will also be assessing to see what your child knows coming in so I can meet all students’ needs and have the whole class grow. This assessment will be laid back, not formal. I will bring foam letters and numbers with me. I will also have them draw a picture of anything they would like to draw as well as write their name and any words to describe their picture. Please do not be concerned I am using their version of writing as a starting point. Children at this stage have their version of forming letters; it may look like scribbles to you but letters to them.
If you and your child could make a family poster together before the school year starts that would be great. I will be bringing a piece of construction paper for your use. Please continue making your normal errands into a learning experience, working on color names, recognition of letters on signs, as well as reading with your child daily. Family is a very important aspect of your child’s learning. You as the family will be very involved this year. We will have monthly family nights. During these family nights the children will share with you what they have learned this past theme unit, including writing examples in journals as well as images and projects we have worked on for our literacy growth such as letter recognition, sounds, and naming objects that start with the letter we are working on. We will also have visitors coming in to our classroom to share information with us or we will be taking a field trip to enhance our learning this year.
I have created an online form for each family to fill out. When you get a chance, please fill out this form. It is very important information for me and the school to have.
If there is anything that is on your mind feel free to give me a call, 789-6543.

Thank you,
Brienne Valliere

P.S. There should be a post card in the mail for your child from me. Please keep your eyes open for this.
